Hypocalcaemia prevention in dairy cows is the priority objective for all those involved in cattle nutrition. A correct technical approach in the steaming up/close up phase must necesarily limit the “metabolic alkalosis” incidence that is the priority critical factor of hypocalcemia at calving. This goal is achieved often resorting to anionic salts use in order to acidify the steaming up ration and lower the overall DCAD of the ration itself (anionic strategy).

THE ANION STRATEGY’s LIMITS
Excessive acidification of prepartum TMR induces “metabolic acidosis” predisposing the cow to dry matter ingestion reduction (-15%, Lopera et al 2006).

Approximately 80% of  Magnesium and Chlorine release occurs at the abomasal/intestinal level with effective DCAD equal to -5140 meQ/kg tq, thus allowing to obtain a targeted and effective action.
